Aspartame is a low-calorie sweetener made from two amino acids – aspartic acid and phenylalanine. It is 200 times sweeter than sugar. Because of its potency, less is needed to match the level of sweetness sugar delivers. With a clean, sugar-like taste and no lingering or metallic after-taste, it is an excellent low-calorie sweetener for developing zero or low-calorie food and beverages, without sacrificing taste. Aspartame is found in some of the world’s most consumed zero and low-calorie beverages and foods. Aspartame is approved by the US FDA, JECFA, the EU and more than 100 regulatory agencies worldwide.
